Fans got to see their first taste in a while of Alexander Burmistov, the team’s first round pick in 2010 who returned to the Jets after two seasons in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
The skilled forward played on a line with 2014 first round pick, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Mathieu Perreault, finishing the game with zero shots, one hit and a minus-1 in 17:07 of ice time. Here’s what he had to say about his first NHL game in more than two years:
It was much of the same for the second frame as both teams were unable to finish on their chances, with the Wild holding the edge in shots, 19-16. Netminder Ondrej Pavelec finished his outing after 40 minutes, stopping all 19 shots he faced.
Connor Hellebuyck started the third period for the Jets and picked up right where Pavelec left off. He had just two shots against in the third period but in overtime he made a highlight-reel save on Wild forward Tyler Graovac with 53 seconds left in OT to keep the Jets in it.
Wild defenceman Matt Dumba would eventually end the game, beating Hellebuyck with 48 seconds left in OT to give Minnesota the win. The Jets fall to 0-1 in the pre-season and get ready to head to Edmonton Wednesday night to face off against the Oilers at Rexall Place.
